The Robert House
Tucked just below the street line, half-hidden and half-revealed, stands The Robert House—a classic mid-century residence built in 1952. With its timeless architectural bones and abundant character, the home was ready for a thoughtful revival that honored its heritage while ushering in a new era of style.
Upon arrival, the refreshed exterior sets the tone. A new front door in a deep rust hue punctuates the façade, complemented by a moss-green exterior inspired by the home’s birth decade. The combination feels at once rooted and renewed—nostalgic yet unmistakably modern.
Inside, the design vision pays homage to the home’s original character while embracing bold, playful, and offbeat moments that expand its narrative. The living room, bathed in natural light, centers around a restored stone-clad fireplace. Organic seating arrangements invite conversation and connection, all while framing views of the expansive backyard beyond.
In the private wing, the guest suite and home office were reworked to include ample storage through custom black walnut built-ins, blending practicality with class mid-century details. The main guest bath, completely re-envisioned, adopts a monochromatic palette of large-scale wall tiles, ribbed glass, and bespoke metal cabinetry—an elegant study in texture and restraint.
A second guest bathroom was introduced off the back bedroom, where a softer palette of salmon and cream tones evokes quiet sophistication. Arched motifs flow through the bespoke vanity and tub enclosure, unifying the space with a subtle rhythm. Handcrafted zellige tiles meet white travertine stone, playful concrete accents, and warm terrazzo underfoot—together forming a serene sanctuary that feels both timeless and distinctly personal.
The result is a masterful balance of reverence and reinvention—a mid-century home celebrated for its past, now thoughtfully designed for the present.
